A Note to My Readers

By Lara DeHaven

Dear Reader,

Thank you so much for your prayers for my niece, Adriana.  Doctors warned us that the life with a preemie is a roller coaster ride.  They were not lying.  It is not my place to go into specifics of her condition, but I will say that the prayers are working.  Just as we are flying down the roller coaster with our stomachs dropping and feeling helpless, your prayers lift us up to the top.  Some days we coast along; some days the bottom feels like it has dropped out from under us. In the midst of all this, God is faithful and He is in control.

We are so appreciative for the many prayers I know that you are saying for a little girl, whom you do not even know.  Some of you have written out prayers and emailed them to me personally.  They were beautiful.  Some write me to check on Baby Adriana, which is one of the reasons I am starting this thank you note with her.  Some just assure me that they are praying for her.  Either way I am thankful.  We are not out of the woods with her yet, so please keep those prayers coming.

I also wanted to thank you for greatly encouraging my son, Clayton.  Your comments on the page as well as the numerous emails I received thrilled him.  I compiled them for him and they filled two printed pages.  Amazing!  If he is anything like me, then he will treasure these comments and read them when he is discouraged.  Thank you for making this possible.

On a less serious note, thank all of you who went to see Dolphin Tale.  Homeschoolers-on-the-Brazos, the group to which we belong, was well represented at a mid-day showing.  I received many emails from readers that told me they were going and/or spreading the news.  What resulted from our support of a family-oriented film?  According to a note from Alcon Entertainment, our support far surpassed any expectations and had Dolphin Tale in “a neck and neck battle for #1.”  To read the letter from Alcon Entertainment in its entirety, go to “Hollywood is Paying Attention” by Sally Clarkson.

It dawned on me as the movie began that I had been telling people to go see it without having seen it myself.  I guess I put my neck out, but I am happy that I did.  Dolphin Tale is an incredible movie.  It is based on a true story, which in itself is amazing.  It was beautifully told.  It made me laugh out loud and cry.  I whole-heartedly recommend it for all ages.

Last but not least, thank you, readers, for supporting me and Texas Homesteader.  Sometimes I get tired, and I begin wondering why I even write. It is just about then that one of you will write me the sweetest email.  You encourage me to continue.  Your stories inspire and your comments uplift me.  From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.

Thanks,

Lara DeHaven

P.S.  If anyone wanted to see my television interview on Think Natural with Dr. Ward Bond, it is now up on Welcome to the Ranch.

Everyone I know is praying daily for Adriana, and I know it is working. You are right, some days it feels like we have been kicked in the stomach. I guess when they told us it would be a roller coaster, I was hoping for the kiddie ride and not the one with loops and extreme drops!
You amaze me on a daily basis! Keep up all the good and hard work.

I’ve said a little prayer for Adriana just now. My husband and I were in Florida this summer and went to the little Clearwater aquarium. What a treat to see the dolphins and the famous Winter. It is an easy day trip from Orlando and I recommend a visit if you are in the area. We took the boat trip and really enjoyed it. We are planning to see the movie soon, if ever we get a free afternoon!
