Raw Milk Crackdown

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

In Texas, you can purchase raw milk from dairies as long as they are certified "Grade A Raw for Retail."  The catch is that you must purchase the milk from the dairy.  In other words, the dairy cannot ship its raw milk to a farmer's market, grocery store, etc.  Customers must come to the dairy to pick up the milk.  We milk... »

Show Pigs in Trouble

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Well, this has not been the best year for show animal projects.  Kyla's market goat, Coco, broke her ankle the first week she came to our farm.  This set her back 6 weeks.  Unfortunately, she does not act as good as she should when Kyla works with her and some muscular structure atrophied during her recovery period.  She just does... »

Homemade Mayonnaise

Friday, May 13th, 2011

Mayonnaise is not the easiest thing in the world to make.  However, it is a very useful ingredient to have in your house.  Before we went on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, we used Hellman's Real Mayonnaise.  I was raised on it, and we loved the flavor of that brand.  Since we can no longer have Hellman's or any other prepared... »

The Chronological Bible

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

My family hit a milestone two weeks ago.  We completed reading the New Testament in chronological order.  Every weekday morning, we have a family Bible study.  Our resource was The Daily Bible in the New International Version by F. LaGard Smith. In the past, we have jumped around in the Bible reading from the Old and New Testaments.  We have read them in canonical... »

Mother by George Cooper Hundreds of stars in the deep blue sky, Hundreds of shells on the shore together, Hundreds of birds that go singing by, Hundreds of birds in the sunny weather. Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn, Hundreds of bees in the purple clover, Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn, But only one mother the wide world over. Mothers play... »

Food Storage Homesteading-Style

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

As food prices have continued to increase, many people are beginning to store a food supply.  It is not only economical, but great to have when a natural or man-made disaster occurs.  I know that as Hurricane Ike approached the Gulf Coast, you could not find a can of tuna or a bottle of water on any grocery store shelf... »

Country Boys Will Survive

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Hank Williams Jr. wrote and sang a song by this same title.  His lyrics are just as true today as they were in 1982.  And I submit that they were true hundreds of years ago.  To read the lyrics of this famous country song, click here.  This song was on my mind this weekend while I watched my sons work alongside... »
