We Wish You a Merry Christmas!

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

I just wanted to wish each and every one a Merry Christmas! It is a hectic time for everyone.  People are shopping, wrapping gifts, cooking, cleaning, etc.  Take a moment to:  "Reflect on your present blessings of which every man has many, not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some." Charles Dickens Reading Dicken's A Christmas Carol will help... »

Christmas Cookies

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Traditionally before our no wheat days, on Christmas morning we woke up and ate pigs-in-a-blanket.  Since then we have enjoyed little smokies and gluten-free cinnamon rolls or muffins.  They are good, but I plan to alter our menu slightly with the discovery of these yummy little cookies. I was making Christmas cookies like... »

Our Last Biblical Holiday of the Year

Friday, December 17th, 2010

This year our family chose to celebrate the Biblical Holidays.  We used Robin Sampson's A Family Guide to the Biblical Holidays.  We found this decision a deeply moving and exciting experience.  I personally  gained so much in my understanding of the Bible, words Jesus said, etc.  I highly... »

A Magical Christmas

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

My mom has never been a seamstress.  She can make clothing, blankets, or pillows using a sewing machine if she has to but it does not come easily to her.  She wanted to give something to me that would be special, memorable, and useful.  She decided to make me a quilt. She picked a pattern and... »

Stay Warm from the Inside Out

Friday, December 10th, 2010

Last night my little boys and I stood on Washington Avenue in Navasota, Texas watching the Christmas Parade pass.  My husband and three oldest children were riding horses in the Grimes County Mounted Posse.  It was a great parade. Good old capitalism was at work at the parade.  A few women were walking the sidewalks selling cotton candy and hot chocolate.  Hot... »

Gluten-Free Spritz Cookies

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

My grandmother used to always make little green tree cookies during December.  It was just one of the many goodies that she made for Christmas.  As a little girl, I had no idea they were called Spritz cookies; I just knew how good they were. To make them in a decorative shape, you need a... »

Santa’s Workshop

Monday, December 6th, 2010

I absolutely love to give homemade gifts for Christmas.  It makes me learn new skills.  It gives me a creative outlet.  And, it is a way to put my heart into the gift.  When a gift is made with love, I think it makes it that much more special. Since two weeks before Thanksgiving, I have been working away at different homemade... »
