Great Winter Drink Recipes
It is cold. It has been cold for quite some time now. My kids are always asking for hot chocolate. Since they cannot have cow milk, I decided to make my own from goat milk. It was good, but they are spoiled with the powdered flavor of hot chocolate. It was not their favorite, but I’m telling you it is good.

Hot Chocolate
Hot Chocolate
3 oz unsweetened baking chocolate
1 1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
dash of salt
4 1/2 cups goat milk
Heat the chocolate and water together in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until chocolate melts and the mixture is smooth. Stir in sugar and salt. Allow it to come to a boil. Then simmer uncovered for 4 minutes. Now stir in milk. Do not let it get too hot or a skim will form on top. Stir until smooth or beat until foamy. Serve immediately plain, with whipped cream, or in our case with marshmallows. This recipe makes about 6 servings.
A drink that my children love is eggnog. This recipe helped accustom them to goat milk as we were switching from cow milk. My recipe has raw egg, which might keep some people from trying it. We raise and use our own farm eggs. Therefore, we know where the eggs came from and how it was handled. We do not worry about using raw egg.
Eggnog
2 eggs, well beaten
4 Tbsp sugar
pinch of salt
2 cups cold goat milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 cups crushed ice* (optional)
Beat together the eggs, sugar, and salt. Then add the milk and vanilla. Beat the mixture well. You can serve at this point; make sure it is very cold. Or, you can blend it with crushed ice. This makes it more like a shake. Either way it makes four servings. You can sprinkle nutmeg on top.
The last winter drink recipe makes your house smell wonderful. For this reason, it is a great drink to make when expecting guests. As a girl, I always helped my mom make it. My job was to stick cloves into the orange.
Wassail
2 quarts apple juice
1 pint cranberry juice
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp aromatic bitters
2 sticks of cinnamon
1 tsp whole allspice
1 small orange studded with whole cloves
Make in a slow cooker/Crockpot. Cook it for one hour on high. Turn it down to low and cook for 4 to 8 hours. Serve warm.

Laura, is all well on the home front. I don’t mind, but you haven’t posted in awhile. Which anyone who reads your blog knows, that’s not like you. I just wanted to check in and see if there is/was anything for which I could pray.
Karen,
Thank you so much for your concern. Everything is fine; I was just taking off between Christmas and the New Year. I could always use a prayer though. This is one of the reasons that I love having this blog. People are awesome. Again, thank you, Karen. Happy New Year!
