Do You Need a Detox Miracle?
The day after Thanksgiving means different things to different people. Some are watching football. Some are fighting for good deals in retail stores. Some are trimmiing their house with Christmas decorations. Some are completely sick to their stomachs due to overindulgence.
If you are not feeling well today, then you might try a detoxification diet for a week. There is not better time than the present to make the step towards better health. I have shared in “The Need for Mother Culture” that I struggle with hormonal imbalance. My thyroid and adrenal glands have crashed in the past, and I am still on the path to fix the problem.
Therefore since the birth of my last child about 20 months ago, I have not felt well. Every day I struggle with indecision, irritability, fatigue, and just not feeling myself. Lately I have been suffering from nausea and/or stomach upset all day long. I ran across this book in my mother’s house called, 7-Day Detox Miracle, by Peter Bennett and Stephen Barrie. I read through it and decided to try it before going back to my doctor.
It is a week long diet and supplement plan to restore one’s health. My oldest son decided to do it with me. I am very proud of him because having a partner makes this week much more pleasant. The hardest part was the first two days. You are on a liquid fast. You are only allowed lemon water. In addition you are taking numerous supplements to help heal or remove toxins from your body. With the advice from the book, I decided which supplements to take.
The first day was agony. I felt so sick as toxins were released into my blood stream. I was nauseous. If I was not so stubborn, I might have quit. I found that going on long walks through the pasture and woods helped me tremendously. Day two was much easier. I felt much better. I only had a headache from no coffee, tea, or soft drinks.
The next five days are much easier. You can have all the green tea, fruits, vegetables, and rice that you want. You are still taking all the supplements, but now it is easier with something in your stomach. My son and I decided to cook foods that we did not usually prepare.
We ate rice with kimchi, vegetable stir-fry and rice, spaghetti squash, our version of eggplant parmesan, and grilled sweet potato and steamed artichoke. These were our dinners. For breakfast we made a fruit smoothie with brown rice protein powder. For lunch, we ate leftovers or a vegetable soup.
It was hard to not eat nuts, corn, oats, dairy products, eggs, or meat. I really had to think before I cooked anything. Clayton and I had a good time cooking together.
The best thing about this week was how good we felt. By the fourth day, I felt like a new person. In fact when Andrew dumped his fruit smoothie on the floor, my reaction was much different than usual. I sweetly asked him not to step in it and went to get a towel. After I cleaned up the mess, I realized how different I was. It is not that I throw fits or anything, but the spill did not stress me out. My husband jokes that I went “Mrs. Duggar on the children.”
Anyway, it was nice to feel so good. Weeks later I still feel good. I have stayed completely away from wheat, to which I am allergic. I am taking my supplements. I still have not had caffeine. The 7-Day Detox Miracle might just be what they claim. I might not have to go back to my doctor. Even though it was a tough first day, I would highly recommend trying it if you think you need to give your body a break. Your liver and digestive system will thank you.
Clayton and I are both glad we finished the week. If we can do it, you can too. Do you need a detox miracle?

I did not overindulge for Thanksgiving but have been fighting weight gain since giving up smoking in July (squamous cell carcinoma on my lip). I have been trying to think of a way to start changing my diet and your Detox post came at the perfect time! Thanks for the boost.
I have been having the same issues. At the end of my pregnancy with our 5th I started being really sick. I have found that my adrenals are bonkers, and I think my thyroid is having issues – though the test come back normal… My husband finally told me to find a doctor that could do blood test – after I called him home from work twice in one week because I was too weak to pick up the baby…
But my hair is falling out in cups and my tempature in the morning is below 97 most of the time… I am trying some natural therapies for thyroid and pituatry (sp?) glands – but the real stuff is going to have to wait until I am done nursing. My baby is almost 8 months old and nursing like a champ – he just started eating pieces of pear this week. I have a line of cleanses for after he is done – ready to go! I am so ready to feel better and get rid of this extra weight
Beverly,
I pray that you get some relief soon. Feeling that bad and losing your hair while trying to care for your family and infant is not fun. Let me know how you feel after the detox. I completely relate to not wanting to do anything while nursing. You sound like an awesome mother. I hope you feel awesome soon.
