My 100th Article!

By Lara DeHaven

In television, the 100th episode is usually a big deal.  I am sure that in the blogging world that it is not quite the same; however, I thought I would celebrate it nonetheless.  And why not?  It has been such a journey for me.  At first, I knew very little about blogging.  I cannot claim that I am an expert now, but I am much more confident.  I enjoy writing, which was why I love this opportunity to share my experiences with others.

In a relatively short time I have planted and harvested a spring garden.  I have had milk goats born on my farm.  I am almost through creating my wheat-free cookbook.   I have taken care of my son through his chemical burn and skin graft.  My grandfather fell ill and is being buried today.  Many big events have occurred, not to mention the little, everyday happenings. Through it all, I feel very blessed. And, I hope that I have been a blessing to you as well.

At first my mom was my reader.  In 5-1/2 months, I have had 17,000 hits.  Word of mouth works!  So if you told anyone about Texas Homesteader, “Thank you!”  I also want to thank each and every one of you for your support and readership.  I want to say, “Thank You!” to my subscribers and those who receive my articles via the different readers.

I would like your feedback.  Please contact me via my Contact Me Page or drop a comment and let me know how I am doing.  What aspect of the blog do you enjoy the most and/or the least?  Is there a gap I need to fill in my desire to write about homesteading, homeschooling, food allergies, and green living?  Those topics are rather broad, so don’t be afraid to share your opinion.  Otherwise I will just keep on the same path.

I have so enjoyed your blog. My husband and I moved out onto 13 acres by Brazos Bend State Park. We have so far been working on the house and recently put in a fenced garden. We have to fence it because of the deer. I had put in my spring garden when we found out my husband has cancer and all work around here pretty much stopped. I enjoyed your blog because I enjoy all your successes. I homeschool our daughter and we have been mostly in the car or hospital. The other day I looked longingly at my garden. The cucumbers that are now the size of eggplant and have turned a light yellow. I keep thinking I’ll go out there and pull up the weeds just to get back in the dirt but then have to get in the car and leave. For me you are a life line to the life we had planned when we first moved out here. Someday we will be doing all the things you are.We are getting a new roof next week,(still the effects of hurricane Ike). So I’m pretty excited about that.
Anyway thanks for always sending out pictures. I so enjoy them. Also just want to send my condolences to you and your family. I can tell that he was greatly loved. That we all could end our lives surrounded by people that love us would be a great blessing. So God bless you and your family.
