A Family Emergency

By Lara DeHaven

I am writing to let everyone know that my 16 month old son, Andrew, has been burned badly by a chemical.  The cleaner was Basic G by Shaklee and it was something that I had never ever used.  In fact it had come in a cleaning package that I purchased years ago at a Shaklee party.  Anyway to make a long story short, we took him to the emergency room in College Station and were transported by ambulance to University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.  For anyone not from Texas, it is a little over a 200 mile trip from our home one way.

A picture of Andrew smiling as usual.

Andrew had to undergo a surgery to debride the burn and ended up having to have a skin graft.  Thankfully, we are now home.  However, we will have to go back to San Antonio on Tuesday for a doctor appointment.  Needless to say this has been a very stressful time for my family.  I will not be writing articles this week as I take off to care for Andrew and his burn.  I have no doubt that my subscribers and readers understand.  I just wanted you to know.

I am also asking for prayers for my family, especially for Andrew.  The next two weeks are critical for the graft to take and not become infected.  The latter will be difficult because the burn is on his butt cheek.  Thank you in advance for your prayers.

Babies being sick is almost the worst feeling in the world. Spent a week in the hospital with my oldest when she was 17 months. My prayers are with you and yours.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and comments. It means so much to see women that I don’t even know caring enough to pray for my family. As of last Tuesday Drew’s graft had not begun to take. This whole incident has been incredibly stressful. We go for a two more days to San Antonio next week. Hopefully the doctors will be satisfied with his progress and the skin graft will have taken by then. I don’t know what will happen if it hasn’t. So please continue to pray for Andrew and the rest of my family. Thank you again.

  7. This is the first time I came to your blog and was shocked to see the experience your son and the family and are going through. I showed my husband and both of us are praying for Andrew’s recovery. I hope you will share good news with us, very soon. Chaya

  8. Hi Lara,
I am Julie Bouldin. I am not sure if you will remember me. Noel that you used to go to school with is my sister. She was telling me about your blog and I stopped by. I homeschooled my daughter Kacy for all of her schooling. We have a lot in common. I wanted to tell you that I am praying for you and your family. I pray for rest and peace as you go through this time of trial.

    Blessings,
    Julie
