Get Your Hands Dirty

Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty.
It seems to me that most people have great ideas from time to time. One is inspired to lead a different kind of occupation. One invents a new and improved thingamajig. Unfortunately, most of these ideas stay ideas. They are fleeting thoughts and desires for something new and different.
Now I am not an impulsive person. I like to think about something, learn about it, and then act on it. I also do not expect overnight success. I am pretty practical; you have to set realistic expectations.
About five years ago, I had a vision for my life. I had already been homeschooling for one year. I wanted ideally for my husband to come home and earn a living. I wanted a large family who were close to each other and worked side by side on our farm. We harvested a bounty from the vegetable garden and fruit trees/bushes in my dream. We also raised dairy goats.
At that time, the life I envisioned seemed so far away, so impossible. I shared my vision with my husband. He thought it sound great, ideal even, but also impossible. We began praying about it. We also began taking baby steps as we worked towards our goal.
Our family expanded our vegetable garden. We ordered baby chicks and built a coop for them to live. We made mistakes. We learned from them. We continually kept adding more and more things that moved us one step closer to self-sufficiency. We kept in mind that Rome was not built in one day.
My husband eventually quit his job working as an automotive technician at a car dealership to open his own repair business at home. Customers came from all over. Financially things were tight, but we were happy and making ends meet.
We kept working towards our goal of self-sufficiency and still are as a matter of fact. We have come a long way. It might not be easy, but nothing ever worth having is. It is frightening to try something different. Unless you make an attempt to move in the direction you want for your life, your career, your family, etc., you will never know the outcome. It might not be successful in the end, but at least you have tried. It is great to have a dream. Don’t let it die by inaction. Remember to work towards your dream. You cannot wait for it to fall from the sky. Set realistic goals and celebrate your accomplishments. Whatever it is that you are envisioning, don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty!
