Pray More Effectively
People like homesteaders, farmers, and ranchers can be a very spiritual group. I think it is because our lives are so intertwined with nature. Our livelihoods depend on the right amount of rainfall, warm nights for proper plant growth, and good weather. All of these things are completely out of our control. We have no choice but to take our needs and wants to a greater power. A divine entity capable of providing the conditions that our crops and animals need. I pray to God.

Fat Cows and Green Grass
Years ago, Texas was suffering a devastating drought. Most of the population probably did not even notice except that they had to water their small yards more than usual. But for the ranchers, farmers, and homesteaders, the drought was real and threatening their way of life. The drought was burning up their crops and fields, ranchers were having to put out hay for their cattle to eat in the summer, and the water in the ponds was at a dangerously low level.
My parents who were ranching at the time called out to God with all they had. They petitioned him for life-giving rain. Their lips moved quietly in constant prayer to their heavenly Father. God answered. The skies opened up and rain fell. It fell and fell dropping 19″ in about 24 hours. The creeks and ponds were swollen with water. Then the water began spilling out of the banks and filling the whole bottom of our ranch. The water literally lapped against the fence behind our house. We began wondering if it would every stop raining. We wondered if this was how Noah felt in the first days of the flood.
As the water began receding, we could see the damage of erosion caused by the rapid rainfall and swift currents as the rain raced to the Gulf of Mexico and out to sea. The local meterologist announced that night on the evening news that we were no longer in a drought. We had caught up our rainfall needs in one day! However, we did not rejoice because the truth of the matter was that our ranch, cows, and grass did not benefit much from the 19″ of rain. It did not have time to soak in and nourish the ground.
Regardless, we thanked God for sending the rain. He gave us exactly what we desired. We learned a great lesson. Be very specific for what you need and let God figure out how to accomplish the task. We now ask for green grass and fat cows.
So when you need or want something and take it to God in prayer. Remember this article and pray specifically for what it is that you desire and let God work His way.

Hey, cool tips. I’ll buy a glass of beer to the man from that forum who told me to go to your blog
This topic is quite hot in the net right now. What do you pay the most attention to while choosing what to write about?
I had no idea that praying more effectively was a hot topic right now. With this news, I can only assume that people are turning to God in this time of stress and economic recession, which in my opinion is fantastic.
To answer your question, the categories on this site are ones that I am passionate about and have experiences to share. I try to write about homesteading, gardening or green living, living with food allergies, and homeschooling once a week. Since I post every weekday this leaves me with a free spot to post whatever moves me.
Thank you for taking the time to ask.
